How I save money for travel – you can do it too

While the waves come rolling in, the sun kisses my skin and the wind blows through my hair, I can feel it ease my mind. When you are surrounded by such beauty, there is this overwhelming feeling like you can conquer the world. Like these typical airplane window views, the beach and ocean can make you feel so small but makes you feel like you can do anything in the world too. The world is yours, you just have to reach out to your dreams and take the opportunities that come along the way. And then all of a sudden the travel bug bites you, and you constantly want to be on the road. How do you save up for it?

A lot of people look at me like I am very privileged to travel the world as I do. I’m not a backpacker and I have never left my home for months, but somehow people seem to assume that you are always gone. And they point out to me that they wish that they could do it too. One girl that talked to me about this hardly ever left the Dutch border by car herself and has never been on a plane eighter. SO yes I’m privileged to travel the world and I am very thankful for it, but you can do it too.

I think it all comes down to making priorities. You decide where you want to spend the money on where you have worked so hard for to earn. If you prefer going to festivals, eating out most of the week and spending a lot of money on cars, etc. It’s not that hard to think that there is hardly any money left to save up for travels. So make up your mind and set your goals straight. Make a list of things where you can save money on. Like taking your reusable cup of water bottle with you instead, choose home-cooked meals over restaurants, choose vintage over new. Look at your bills, work some extra hours and sell what you are no longer using.

Besides that, I only started making press-trips years after I started my Dutch Lifestyle blog Linda’s Wholesome Life. Now I get to team up with amazing partners every now and then. But I do have to work hard to get to the point where I am now. And I am so lucky that I get to travel the world with family or my boyfriend. And I still plan my trips wisely. I love to puzzle and look for great deals when it comes to airplane tickets and accommodations. Because you only get to spend your money once, make it last and choose wisely folks.
